The Notes

My body of work, The Notes, consists of observational oil paintings of ripped-up pieces of notebook paper. I bend and manipulate the notebook paper in a way that looks interesting, and then shine a light above it to create the shadows. Painting from life is a process I have found to enjoy. Details are easier to capture when the object is directly in front of me. To make the pieces more exciting, I paint a bright pink background inspired by the Pop Art movement of the 50s and 60s. Each painting is completed with a doodle or a saying on the note to bring it to life.
